House Settlement

At Foundation Worx we repair foundations but also look at what caused the problem to occur. Often what caused the problem is as important as the solution.  

All structures settle. So when you notice a small crack in sheetrock, brick, block or even a poured concrete wall, this isn't necessarily a foundation problem. Many concrete cracks are caused by shrinking or shifting concrete and are nothing more than cosmetic issues. However, if you notice any of the following, you may have a failing foundation:

• Cracks getting wider
• One side of the slab is raised or settled
• Stair step cracking
• Horizontal cracks in basement walls

We look for 2 things

1. Excessive movement
2. Historical Movement

Remember - not every crack needs to be fixed. When in doubt hire a structural engineer to make the call on what is a problem and isn't a problem - that's not the primary job of a company that repairs foundations.
